From June 3-6, 2024, London became the epicenter of enterprise architecture (EA) and business process management (BPM) as thought leaders and industry professionals gathered for the Enterprise Architecture & BPM Conference 2024, hosted by IRM UK. This four-day event was a melting pot of innovation, insights, and practical applications, aimed at driving the future of enterprise transformation.

The conference featured four curated tracks, offering a blend of foundational and advanced sessions. This structure ensured that every participant, from beginners to seasoned professionals, could find sessions tailored to their needs, fostering a rich environment for learning and professional growth.

Real-world applications: Bridging theory and practice

A core part of the conference was its emphasis on the practical application of theoretical concepts. Through case studies and contributions from leading organizations like ABN AMRO Bank, BT Group, and Cambridge University Press & Assessment, participants gained actionable insights into how EA and BPM strategies are implemented in real-world scenarios.

The event was packed with insightful sessions and trending topics that highlighted the evolving landscape of EA and BPM. Here are some key themes that emerged:

The federated approach to EA

Ben Langridge, Senior Technology Architect at Cambridge University Press & Assessment, delivered an engaging session titled "The Road to Sensible Decisions: Building a Modelling Toolchain."  During his presentation, Ben shared his experience with implementing a federated approach to EA. His session underscored the challenges and solutions in creating a comprehensive model that aids in making sensible organizational decisions. The session highlighted how next-generation AI technologies can enhance both organizational capabilities and human roles, driving efficiency and innovation.

Cybersecurity in EA

Gareth Morgan from Sophos addressed the critical issue of cybersecurity in his session, "6 Steps for Uncovering and Overcoming Cybersecurity Risks with Enterprise Architecture." As cyber threats become increasingly sophisticated, integrating robust cybersecurity measures into EA is essential. Gareth's insights provided a roadmap for organizations to strengthen their defenses using EA principles.

Aligning strategic business capabilities
